Hamburg coach Joe Zinnbauer does not believe that Rafael van der Vaart will leave the Bundesliga club before the end of the season, despite reports linking him with a move to Major League Soccer.
All signs have so far suggested that Van der Vaart, who is out of contract in the summer, will not sign a new deal with HSV and will instead exit the club he re-joined from Tottenham in 2012.
This week, the Netherlands international reportedly held talks with Sporting Kansas City -- the MLS club are claimed to have offered the player an annual salary of 4.3 million euros and want to make him the face of the franchise.
Sporting CEO Robb Heineman, however, took to Twitter on Tuesday to say that while he met the former Real Madrid man at the weekend, reports of the salary or anything more were incorrect.
Speaking to reporters in Hamburg on Tuesday, Zinnbauer ruled out that his captain could leave the club before the end of the Bundesliga season in May, which, with the MLS transfer window still open, would be a possibility.
"I don't get the impression that he wants to leave sooner," he said. "I'd be against it from a sporting perspective too."
Hamburg are currently fighting relegation in the Bundesliga for a second season running.
Van Der Vaart has failed to make the starting lineup for the last two league games, although he has not been written off by Zinnbauer.
"He forces himself. He is annoyed that he did not start in the last games," Zinnbauer added.
Elsewhere, Bild claims that Schalke midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng could also join an MLS side this summer.
The former AC Milan player, who is under contract until 2016, has been struggling for form and Schalke have reportedly lost patience with him.
According to the report, the MLS could be a viable option for the midfielder, with his fiance eyeing a career in the United States as an actress.
